Trailer: Introducing The Upload

(2:41 mins)

HOST: When was the last time you watched a video online? Maybe you were learning a new recipe, or needed to figure out how to change the oil in your car.

Whatever you ended up watching, it may have sounded a little like this...

[CTA Montage]
"What’s up everyone?"
"Hey YouTube, welcome to my channel."
"Greetings my beautiful lovelies."
"What’s good Youtube, welcome back."
"What up, it’s your girl, Lilly!"
"Hi y’all, welcome to another video."

HOST:  The internet and YouTube go hand in hand. And, if you’re anything like me-- and I watch a lot of YouTube-- then you’re also probably familiar with some of its biggest personalities.

But, How much do you really know about how YouTube works?

Like, how do creators go from uploading a video to running an actual business?

What does it take to go from recording in your living room to scaling, hiring a team and turning your passion into a full-time career?

We’re diving into all of that and more in the new podcast The Upload: The Rise of the Creator Economy.

[Theme music comes up]

HOST:  I’m your host Brittany Luse. The Upload is a new podcast from YouTube in partnership with National Public Media. In the Upload, we’re exploring the creator economy and how YouTube creators have not just transformed the internet—they’ve changed the way we do business.

In this podcast, we talk to rising and established YouTube creators who’ve turned their YouTube channels into successful careers.

[SOUNDBITE: Lilly Singh]

“You know, when I started making videos, I was like, no, no, no, I'm just doing comedy videos. And then very quickly, I got emails about brand deals and I got emails about events. And then I needed a manager. Then I need to build a team.”

[SOUNDBITE: Caleb Marshall]

“When I saw 200 subscribers, I was just mind blown. And then when I saw one hundred thousand. But to think like, wow, little old me in the middle of Indiana in the middle of nowhere has one hundred thousand people who have chosen to actually click the subscribe button.”

[SOUNDBITE: DDG]

“It got really real when I dropped a song called Arguments and it went gold. And it was actually about a relationship that I had on YouTube. I ended up getting signed. I ended up getting a record deal from that song.”

HOST:  Join me in this 5-part series as we go behind the YouTube screen.

We’ll laugh…

We’ll cry—maybe just a little!

Through it all, we’ll learn a thing or two about creativity, drive and passion.

And, most importantly, we’ll learn what it takes to turn a dream into a lucrative business.

You can listen to YouTube’s The Upload: The Rise of the Creator Economy wherever you get your podcasts. The first episode drops Wednesday, September 22!
